Julianadorp

Julianadorp is located in the largest flower bulb region of the world. The village has about 14,000 inhabitants and is part of the municipality of Den Helder. A bicycle and canoe route (5 km) connects Den Helder and Julianadorp. The part of Julianadorp close to the dunes and the beach, is called Julianadorp Zee. Here are several holiday resorts, restaurants, the Ooghduyne golf course (9 holes) and the swimming pool Pyramide at the Ooghduyne resort.

The cleanest beach of North Holland with the most sunshine

Julianadorp is number five on the list of cleanest beaches of the Netherlands, the only beach in North Holland on the list. There are three pavilions: Zee van Tijd, Paal 6 and Beach Club Citadel. The region of Den Helder and Julianadorp has, according to the Sunshine Map of the KNMI, the most sun hours of the Netherlands.

Groceries and shopping

The center of Julianadorp is 3 to 4 kilometres away. There are 3 shopping malls for your groceries: de Riepel, Dorperweerth and Loopuytpark. De Riepel is 15 minutes by bike from the camping site and is easy to find. There is a post office (TNT) in the Primera shop.

Public transport and Kustbus

Around Julianadorp there are two city bus lines, two regional bus lines, one school bus line and a summer bus line, all serviced by Connexxion. Between Julianadorp-Den Helder a bus runs every fifteen minutes, and between Julianadorp-Schagen and Julianadorp-Alkmaar one per hour. In the summer there is also an additional timetable for a coast bus line: the Kustbus that runs between Den Helder – Julianadorp – Callantsoog – Petten. The nearest railway station is Den Helder Zuid.

Den Helder

There is much to tell about the maritime history of Den Helder. The people from Den Helder tell their tales in three excellent museums: Fort Kijkduin, the Marinemuseum and the Reddingmuseum. In the oldest part of Den Helder, the old whaling village Huisduinen, stands the lighthouse Lange Jaap. Behind it lays the Grafelijkheidsduinen, once the core of the Wadden island Huisduinen. There is a Beachcombers Market (“Juttersmarkt”) every Tuesday during the summer months. Check the Tourist Information Centre website for more information.

Daytrip to Texel

The boat to Texel ferries from Den Helder. The crossing takes 20 minutes and reservations are not needed or possible. Refer to the Texel Tourist site for more information. Texel is ideal for a day trip. Our Texel Tips are: the Texel Beer Brewery, Ecomare, Kaap Skil, shrimp fishing and a visit to the lighthouse.

Daytrips in North Holland

Highly recommended: Fluwel’s Tulips Land in St. Maartensvlotbrug with blooming tulips until late October, with a treasure hunt for children and various exhibitions on the tulip. The Westfriese Markt in Schagen shows local folklore in all its forms. Alkmaar is the second shopping city of the Netherlands and also the city Hoorn with her impressive VOC past is well worth a day trip.

Nature

Within cycling distance are the nature areas Zwanenwater, Mariëndal, visitors centre de Helderse Vallei and the Donkere Duinen. De Klimvallei offers matching climbing challenges for every age! A unique part of nature is Balgzand inbetween Den Helder and Hipolytushoef. You can do mudflat hiking and excursions from the visitors centre ‘t Kuitje .
